How Much Does Excavation Cost? The average cost of excavation work is $150.00 per hour. This estimate includes the operator's labor and equipment rental fees. | By ProMatcher Staff | Updated: 01/31/2017 | | The cost of excavation depends on:
1. Where you live.
2. How much dirt needs to be moved. Are you digging a basement? Leveling a yard? Excavating for a new driveway?
3. Topography of the land. Is the terrain hilly? Or, is it mostly flat already?
4. The type of equipment required. Will the work require a backhoe loader? A bulldozer?
5. The quality of the soil (clay, rocks, etc.)
6. The number of trees and/or stumps to be removed. Tree removal and stump grinding will cost extra.
7. Applicable dump fees. Does any material need to be hauled away? Removing the dirt from your property may add to the cost of the job.
8. Number of crew members. Each additional crew member on the job site will increase the total cost of labor.
